Understanding Horse PPE: Key Details Buyers Must Know

Vetting & Pre-Purchase Exam (PPE) Policy

The “boring” details—but important ones. Our goal is to provide a professional, transparent, and efficient purchasing experience while respecting the value of our horses and the time invested in their development.

Scheduling a PPE

Once both parties agree to move forward, the PPE must be scheduled within 5 business days.

Buyers are responsible for coordinating directly with their chosen veterinarian.

Deposits & Holds

A 10% non-refundable deposit is required to hold a horse in any capacity, including PPE scheduling, trial rides, or extended decision-making.

We do not require a deposit to proceed with a PPE; however, without a deposit, the horse will remain actively on the market and available to other buyers.

The deposit will be applied toward the purchase price if the horse is purchased. Otherwise, it is non-refundable under all circumstances, as it compensates for time off the market, missed opportunities, and marketing exposure.

No deposit = no hold.

Availability During PPE Process

Once a deposit is received and a PPE is scheduled, the horse will be held exclusively for that buyer.

This hold remains in place through completion of the PPE and the 24-hour decision period outlined below.

PPE Location & Hauling

Due to limited availability of ambulatory veterinarians in our areas, all PPEs are conducted at a clinic.

Buyers may choose from local veterinary options. Requests for alternative clinics must be discussed and approved in advance.

A $100 hauling fee applies for transport to the clinic.

  • This fee will be credited toward the purchase price if the horse is purchased
  • If the horse is not purchased, the fee is non-refundable
  • Payment is required prior to the day of the PPE

Decision Timeline

A final purchase decision must be made within 24 hours of PPE completion.

If no commitment is made within that timeframe, the horse will be released back to active availability without exception.

Additional Notes

  • All PPE-related expenses are the responsibility of the buyer
  • We strongly recommend scheduling promptly, as veterinarians are often booked in advance
